Farm Diary 24

Shirley and her calf arrived on Tuesday. We kept her in the shed overnight as James wormed her (the only routine worming we do is of bought-in stock on arrival). We moved her to Tree Field with the other cows today.
More chickens arrived and I'm wondering if chickens are a good idea. I love my free range layers which wander everywhere and have lots of character. These table birds are not the same at all.

We've had such lovely weather and it's forecast to last. We've started cutting grass for silage. Cut Denny Bole and the top half of Barn Park.
We had it baled the next day. There was a little rain on it unfortunately.
Everyone else in the neighbourhood is cutting silage too.

It's been a lovely week. The weather has been good, and we have enjoyed our visitors. Because they have been here without a car we've seen more of them than we usually with our visitors. I've taken them with me when I've gone shopping and we had a lovely afternoon visiting the Garden House. I love visiting the beautiful gardens near here and there is never enough free time to do so. The gardens at the Garden House are lovely at any time of year but quite glorious in May.
It's been good to have such enthusiastic people here on the farm.
Judith has come for walks with me when I've been out checking the animals. A couple of days ago we stopped for ten minutes in Corner park watching 2 pairs of buzzards wheeling overhead.
